US wind turbine order intake hit a three-year high in Q2

Delivered quarterly, the Wind Energy Monitor from the 91ÖÆƬ³§ Association (ACP) and Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables provides the clean power industry with exclusive insights through comprehensive research. This Q3 2026 release includes Q2 2026 in review.

ÌýReport HighlightsÌý

  • Turbine order capacity reached its highest point since Q4 2023 at 2.8 gigawatts (GW), and the largest wind project the country has ever built came online in New Mexico: with a capacity of 3.65 GW, New Mexico’s massive SunZia project made up the majority of the 5 GW of onshore wind added to the US market in Q2.
  • The US wind industry’s five-year outlook remains on course, with 39 GW of onshore new-build capacity expected by 2030. More than half of the 2026-2028 project pipeline is under construction or already operating, limiting near-term risk of market decline.
  • Texas remains the single largest market for onshore wind over the next five years, projected to account for nearly one-quarter of additions. However, the western region dominates new capacity additions, with Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming expected to be the three largest markets.
  • The wind industry’s offshore outlook remains unchanged at 5 GW quarter-on-quarter, with all capacity additions expected to come online by Q4 2027. The construction pipeline continues to advance with progress on turbine installations, foundation work, and testing.

The spike in firm order intake is largely attributed to tax policy deadline compliance. Tax credits for qualified wind energy projects are set to expire at the end of the decade, and many developers placed wind turbine orders before July 4th to meet the start of construction deadline.

The report also includesÌýkey quarterly trends and analysis on impactful market regulation, policy, system prices, and supply chain across all segments. The report provides industry professionals with actionable and intelligent insights to better inform business decisions.

The Senate’s recently introduced Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (BAAJA) represents, if passed, a major opportunity to modernize how America builds clean energy and transmission infrastructure while also accelerating significant environmental benefits.

ACP’s latest analysis, “The Clean Energy and Environmental Case for the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act, outlines how the bill’s critical provisions on permitting, environmental review, judicial review, and interconnection would address major barriers that keep viable projects from reaching operation. Clean energy stands to disproportionately benefit from these technology-neutral permitting reforms: Solar, wind and energy storage account for 93% of planned 2026 utility-scale additions and roughly 1,742 GW of projects seeking interconnection, compared with 253 GW of gas.

When clean generation or transmission is held up, higher-emitting generation operates longer and opportunities to replace it with lower-emitting resources are lost.

By creating a more predictable path to build, BAAJA can unleash:

  • Over $800 billion in new transmission and clean power infrastructure;
  • 350+ GW of new clean energy;
  • Increased access to low-cost, domestic energy, helping lower consumer prices;
  • A more reliable and resilient grid; and
  • 290 million metric tons of avoided COâ‚‚ emissions annually — equivalent to the emissions of 63 million cars.

Investment Tax Credit Transfer Agreement Form /resources/investment-tax-credit-transfer-agreement-form/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=investment-tax-credit-transfer-agreement-form Tue, 01 Sep 2026 13:45:14 +0000 /?post_type=resource&p=70366 ACP and its industry partners have introduced a new standardized Tax Credit Transfer Agreement form for Investment Tax Credits.

The post Investment Tax Credit Transfer Agreement Form appeared first on ACP.

]]>
As the clean energy industry accelerates project deployment nationwide, the ability to transfer federal tax credits has become one of the most consequential financial tools for shaping project finance. With billions of dollars in transferable credits circulating across technologies — from solar and wind to manufacturing, storage, and nuclear — standardizing these credit transfer transactions can help attract new investors. Ìý

ACP partnered with leading developers, legal experts, and market innovators to explore the state of play and introduce a new standardized ITC transfer agreement form.Ìý

The new Tax Credit Transfer Agreement (TCTA) form is designed to standardize the legal documentation for these transactions, aiming to lower barriers to entry, reduce transaction costs, and shorten deal timelines, especially for first-time buyers and smaller sellers.

Key details about the TCTA form and the transferability market:

  • The market for buying and selling clean-energy tax credits is growing fast: Tax credit transfers have scaled dramatically — from under $10 billion in 2023 to an estimated $40 billion in 2025 across various technologies like solar, wind, manufacturing, storage, and nuclear.
  • ACP and industry partners have introduced the new Tax Credit Transfer Agreement (TCTA) to make deals more accessible to a broader range of market participants:Ìý Tax credit buyers and sellers will have a common starting place to transact transfer deals. ACP’s goal in creating the form with its industry partners is to make the form broadly available and widely used similar to the ubiquitous ISDA framework for derivative transactions.
  • This is just the first step — more standardized tools are coming:ÌýExperts expect similar templates for other credits like 45Y production tax credits and 45X manufacturing incentives further expanding the pool of potential tax equity investors. As these tools roll out, buying and selling credits should become easier, helping clean energy scale more quickly.ÌýÌý

A consistent, tested, and accepted template provides the confidence and guidance these new participants need to transact.
